IN BLANKSTARE NEW: Social media is NOT making kids anti-social

According to research by the Norwegian University of Science and Technology’s kids who are active on social media actually spend more time interacting with their friends and others in person than those who don’t spend a lot of time on social media.

A surprising new study seems to fly in the face of the thinking that the more time kids spend on social media, the less time they are actually social in real life with their friends. Turns out it’s just the opposite. According to research by the Norwegian University of Science and Technology’s kids who are active on social media actually spend more time interacting with their friends and others in person than those who don’t spend a lot of time on social media. “ … We find that people who use social media a lot spend more time with friends offline,” says Professor Silje Steinsbekk of the University’s Department of Psychology.
