YoungBoy Never Broke Again is facing a second felony gun charge in his ongoing drug fraud case.
According to a report WAFB 9 published on Tuesday, August 20, federal prosecutors charged the Baton Rouge, La. native with being a felon in possession of a firearm. The rapper, born Kentrell Gaulden, allegedly possessed a Sig Sauer P365 9mm semi-automatic pistol at the time of his arrest in April. YB was apprehended in Utah following an investigation into his alleged scheme, in which he reportedly scammed pharmacies into giving him promethazine with codeine. He was hit with 63 charges in total including procuring or attempting to procure any drug/prescription, forgery and identity fraud.
The charge came down just a few days after he agreed to plead guilty in his other ongoing gun case. Gaulden has been considered a felon since he was 16. He was barred from possessing weapons following a 2016 shooting. Four years later, federal prosecutors in Louisiana charged Gaulden with one count of possession of firearms by a convicted felon after he was spotted with a 9mm handgun and a .45-caliber Glock during a music video shoot. He was arrested alongside over a dozen other people.
After he spent most of 2021 in a Louisiana jail, Gaulden was granted an opportunity to serve out his sentence on house arrest at his home in Salt Lake City. In light of his new case, the rapper agreed to have his 2020 case transferred to Utah. As part of the transfer, he has to enter a plea. He agreed to the terms and plans to plead guilty so that he could finally be sentenced in that case. He faces up to a maximum of 10 years in prison and supervised release. If he doesn't enter a plea, the case will return to Louisiana where it'll have the opportunity to go to trial.
Gaulden has a chance to close out his cases in one place. He currently faces state charges within two separate counties in Utah. His next court date in Weber County is scheduled for August 29 followed by his court date in Cache County, which will be on September 23.
