Christian "King" Combs is opening up about his new project with Ye.
On Friday, August 1, the son of Sean "Diddy" Combs and the late Kim Porter sat down with 103.5 The Beat's Papa Keith to talk about his new EP, Never Stop, executive produced by Ye. During their conversation, Combs explained that he and Ye were connected well before the Chicago rapper supported his father during his criminal trial.
"When [Ye] reached out to me, it was definitely during a vulnerable time," Combs explained. "He was like 'Yo we gotta make some right now. We gotta make a tape.' And I was like 'Oh nah, that's fire.'"
"He was just showing support at first," he continued. "And then I was talking to him about music and stuff like that. That's when we got into doing the tape. For that to come from him, of course, was an honor."
The project contains seven songs, including "People Like Me" featuring Ye and "Lonely Road" featuring Ye's daughter, North West, and JAAS. Ye shared a different version of the song earlier this year. The initial version contained a snippet of a message Diddy recorded while he was in jail awaiting trial for his sex trafficking case. Ye removed the song after West's mother, Kim Kardashian, complained to a judge amid the former couple's legal issues.
Combs opened up about his new project with Ye shortly after his father was convicted on two counts of violating the Mann Act. A jury acquitted him of the more serious charges of sex trafficking and racketeering following a seven-week trial. Combs is currently trying to overturn his conviction, but he'll have to do it while he sits in jail. Judge Arun Subramanian recently denied his second attempt at bail before he's sentenced. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for October 3, but Combs is hopeful that his dad will come home soon.
"I feel good. The whole family. We feel good," he told Billboard. "We just, you know, humbly, just waiting for the sentencing and waiting for pops to come home. We got good expectations."
